disquiet

Decadence is the total loss of unconsciousness, which is the very basis of life. Could it think, the heart would stop beating.

Snapshots from New York's Manhattan Chinatown

September 23, 2017

Many people don't realize that New York has more than one "Chinatowns", hence my "Manhattan" qualification (as far as I know there is only one in Manhattan). My friend La Vesha and I did a photo walk in the wee hours of a beautiful August weekend morning.

We met each other at the East Broadway subway station and marched forth without any specific plans. We stopped at 388 Cafe & Deli 大同樂 where nostalgia got the better of me and I got myself Hong Kong style milk tea for $1.5.

At first we thought we were a little too early as most storefronts were still shut, but later we were glad we started that early because Chinatown got pretty crowded by noon.

We started down Canal street, made our way to the East River, then back to Chinatown around Mott St., finishing with coffee (for me), iced tea (for Vesha) and conversations at Little Canal, a wonderful little café right outside the East Broadway subway station. Here are some photos from our walk.

Do you know how happy that can of Black and White Evaporated Milk makes me?!
