Dining in Málaga, Spain: Kaleja ⭐

Chef Dani Carnero and his staff

Kaleja is in the heart of Málaga, steps away from Museo Picasso, but it feels tucked away in a quiet street. The cooking is creative and of exceptional quality, and portion sizes for a tasting menu are very manageable.

There are two menu options: Gran Memoria (Great Memory) for 125€ or Memoria (Memory) for 95€. A highlight for me in the menu was Pimiento asadas a la candela – red pepper slow roasted over coals – and for that alone I would recommend the longer menu. The dishes at the restaurant have evolved over the years but the slow-roasted red pepper has been a constant.

I dined at the peak of summer in July of this year. Service was courteous and friendly.
